TslaMirror for iPhone and iPad

TslaMirror mirrors iPhone and iPad apps to the Tesla in-car browser over a private local hotspot connection. This page presents the current app description in a browser-readable format.

What TslaMirror does

TslaMirror is designed to mirror apps from an iPhone or iPad to a Tesla screen through the vehicle's built-in browser. The app includes a one-week free trial.

Supported examples include Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps, YouTube, TikTok, Plex, and more. Support ultimately depends on how each third-party app handles screen capture.

DRM-protected content is not supportedApps including Netflix, Apple TV, YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu may block video capture and display a black screen in the Tesla browser.

Requirements

  • Use TslaMirror only while the vehicle is safely PARKED at 0 mph / 0 km/h.
  • Connect the Tesla to the iPhone Personal Hotspot. Cellular data is required for the iPhone Personal Hotspot feature.
  • The Tesla requires MCU2 or MCU3 hardware. This includes Model 3 and Model Y, Model S or Model X built after March 2018, and vehicles upgraded from MCU1 to MCU2 or MCU3.
  • Update the Tesla infotainment system when an update is available.
  • Make sure the iPhone is not in Low Power Mode.

How to mirror iPhone to a Tesla screen

  1. Connect the Tesla to the iPhone Personal Hotspot.
  2. Open TslaMirror and turn on Proxy.
  3. Tap Start, then select Start Broadcast.
  4. In the Tesla browser, open https://TslaMirror.com.
  5. Keep the iPhone unlocked. Locking the device stops Screen Broadcast and requires the broadcast to be restarted.

Lossless audio playback is supported in the browser.

Key features

  1. Local mirroring traffic: the screen stream stays inside the iPhone Personal Hotspot network and does not pass through a public mirroring server. The Tesla may still use cellular data for its own online services while connected.
  2. Private connection: the screencast is available only to devices connected to the iPhone Personal Hotspot Wi-Fi network.
  3. No additional connection hardware: TslaMirror is a software-based screen mirroring solution.
  4. Fast local network: mirroring performance depends primarily on the local hotspot connection.

A 5 GHz Personal Hotspot is strongly recommended. iPhone 12 and later supported models use 5 GHz by default; enabling Maximize Compatibility changes the hotspot to 2.4 GHz and may reduce performance.

  • MCU3 (AMD Ryzen): H.265 at 720p/60 fps is recommended because 1080p requires more bandwidth. MCU3 supports up to 1080p/60 fps with H.264 or H.265.
  • Tesla software 2025.38.11 and later: H.265 is recommended for both MCU2 and MCU3.
  • MCU2 (Intel Atom): H.264 at 540p/30 fps is recommended only for very old Tesla infotainment software.

Compatibility and limitations

  • TslaMirror is not Apple CarPlay and does not add native AirPlay or CarPlay support to Tesla.
  • Netflix is not supported.
  • Apps that use AVPlayer, including Apple Music and Netflix, may prevent video or audio capture because of iOS Screen Broadcast and DRM restrictions.
  • Actual compatibility can change when a third-party app changes how it renders protected content.

Privacy and security

TslaMirror does not collect usage statistics, personal information, or analytics. On iOS 13 and later, Location Services is used only to read the Wi-Fi network name (SSID). Location data is never stored or collected.

Use TslaMirror only while parked. Local laws may restrict use of a built-in vehicle browser. TslaMirror and its documentation are not affiliated with or endorsed by Tesla, Inc. Some features require specific vehicle hardware, and use is at your own risk.
