Mirror iPhone to Tesla: TslaMirror FAQ

Getting started

Use only while parkedComplete setup and operate the phone or Tesla browser only while the vehicle is safely parked. Local laws may restrict use of the built-in browser.
  1. Update the Tesla infotainment system when an update is available.
  2. Connect the Tesla to the iPhone Personal Hotspot. MCU2 or MCU3 hardware is required.
  3. Make sure the iPhone is not in Low Power Mode.
  4. Open TslaMirror and turn on Proxy.
  5. Tap Start, then choose Start Broadcast.
  6. Open https://TslaMirror.com in the Tesla browser. This connection address is different from the official product website TeslaMirror.com.
  7. Keep the iPhone unlocked. Locking it stops Screen Broadcast.

TslaMirror supports iPhone and iPad mirroring, but it is not CarPlay. A 5 GHz Personal Hotspot is strongly recommended; on supported iPhones, keep “Maximize Compatibility” off after the Tesla has connected.

Common questions

How do I mirror an iPhone to a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y?

Connect the Tesla to the iPhone Personal Hotspot, open TslaMirror, enable Proxy, tap Start and Start Broadcast, then open https://TslaMirror.com in the Tesla browser. Keep the iPhone unlocked while mirroring. TslaMirror.com, without the letter “e” after “T”, is different from the official product website TeslaMirror.com. The technical requirement is MCU2 or MCU3 hardware, so compatibility should be checked by infotainment hardware rather than model name alone. MCU2 or MCU3 hardware is required: available on Model 3 and Model Y, Cybertruck, Model S built after March 2018, Model X built after March 2018, or vehicles upgraded from MCU1 to MCU2/3.

Is TslaMirror the same as AirPlay or Apple CarPlay?

No. TslaMirror does not add native AirPlay or Apple CarPlay to the vehicle. It uses iOS Screen Broadcast and the iPhone Personal Hotspot to display the iPhone or iPad screen in the Tesla browser.

Does iPhone screen mirroring use Internet data?

The mirroring stream stays inside the iPhone Personal Hotspot network and is not routed through a public mirroring server. The Tesla may still use the iPhone's cellular data for its own online services while connected to the hotspot.

Which apps can be mirrored?

Commonly tested apps include Waze, Apple Maps, Google Maps, YouTube, TikTok, Plex, and others. Support ultimately depends on how each third-party app renders its content.

Why do Netflix, Apple Music, or other video apps show a black screen or muted audio?

DRM-protected content and iOS apps that use AVPlayer may prevent video or audio capture. Netflix is not supported. Apple Music may allow the screen to appear while muting its audio during Screen Broadcast.

Why does TslaMirror use a VPN?

Tesla browsers block normal private-LAN ranges. TslaMirror creates a virtual IP and a local VPN tunnel between the iPhone and the Tesla so the browser can reach the phone. The tunnel does not connect to a public VPN server, and the local web server is not available from the public Internet.

Why do iOS instructions mention 240.3.3.3?

TslaMirror still uses 240.3.3.3 internally as a local virtual IP. It is not a public Internet server, and the Tesla browser no longer supports opening it directly. Do not enter this IP as the connection address; open https://TslaMirror.com instead.

Why does Wi-Fi disconnect when the vehicle shifts out of Park?

In the Tesla Wi-Fi settings, select the iPhone hotspot and enable Remain Connected in Drive when that option is available. Configure and test this only while safely parked.

What network settings are recommended?

Use a 5 GHz iPhone Personal Hotspot whenever possible. On iPhone 12 and later, “Maximize Compatibility” changes the hotspot to 2.4 GHz and normally should remain off after connection. Network quality can vary with the phone, signal conditions, and vehicle.

Why is Location Services requested?

On iOS 13 and later, Location Services is used only to read the Wi-Fi network name (SSID). Location data is not stored or collected. Location Services must be on and TslaMirror must have “While Using the App” or “Always” access for this function to work.

Bluetooth Mouse Remote

The iOS Bluetooth Mouse Remote requires a separate M5Stack AtomS3-Lite (SKU:C124) running TslaMouse firmware 0.3.3 or later, plus iOS 18 or later and AssistiveTouch.

Known unsupported examples

Apple Music, Netflix, YouTube TV, ABC Live TV, and ESPN live TV. This is only a reference sample and does not cover every app.

Privacy and support

TslaMirror does not collect usage statistics, personal information, or analytics. Mirroring traffic stays on the iPhone Personal Hotspot, although the Tesla may use cellular data for its own online services while connected.
